Money Saving Tips
Our customers like to save money on their fuel bills. When our technicians service any heating or hot water system, they automatically look for ways to increase its efficiency. The following tips will help you lower your fuel bill while keeping your entire home comfortable.
Fuel
- Install programmable thermostats to reduce heat automatically during the night or when you’re away from home. Set the thermostats to increase the heat just before you wake or return home.
- Inspect your furnace’s air filters and replace them when needed.
- Make sure that the furnace cold air register is not obstructed.
Water Heater
- Save more than 10% on your water heating bill by turning down the heater from 140 degrees to 130 degrees.
- Drain the water heater every few months to remove lime deposits and sediment.
- Install your water heater as near as possible to the area in which the most hot water is used. The farther the water heater is away from the point of use, the greater the amount of cool water which must be run off before hot water reaches the tap.
- Insulate hot water pipes to help keep the water in the pipes warm.
- Insulate your water heater storage tank. If the water heater is warm to the touch, it probably needs insulation; it’s losing heat to the air.
Oil Tank
Call us if your oil tank is tilting, resting on the ground or floor, shows signs of rust or wet spots, needs a site gauge or drips around the filter or valve.
